CONTEST RULES:
How to enter: To be eligible to win, entries must include a photo comprised of the contest entrant or their friends and one or more American University WONK displays in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. All entries must either “Like” the official American University American WONKs page on Facebook or “Follow” the official American University American WONKs account on Twitter. The twitter account address is http://www.twitter.com/americanwonks. The official American WONKs facebook page may be found at www.facebook.com/americanwonks. To enter, contestants must post their photo to the American WONKs Facebook page or link the photo on twitter with the following copy:
#AmericanU, I’m a [fill in the blank] #wonk www.american.edu/wonk.

The [fill in the blank] portion may be any type of descriptive noun or adjective that relates to the word wonk—meaning an expert in a field—so long as it does not contain vulgar, suggestive or offensive language. Photos should be creative in concept, but tasteful and appropriate. Any photos or posts must be positive in nature. Any vulgar gestures, sexually explicit language or gestures or anything deemed to be offensive by American University will be immediately removed and the entry will be disqualified.

Contest Timeline: Contest begins April 1, 2011 at 12:00 a.m. and ends on April 28 at 11:59 p.m. Entries must be submitted between April 1-28, 2011. Late or early entries will not be accepted. The contest will be comprised of four (4) weekly drawings with a prize of free WONK merchandise, up to $50 value and a grand prize drawing on Friday, April 29, 2011 for a 16 GB iPad 2, valued at $499. Contestants may enter once a week to be eligible for the weekly prizes. Each qualified weekly entry will be eligible to win the grand prize drawing. Weekly entries will run as follows:

April 1, 2011 at 12:00 a.m. – April 7, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. (Date winner announced: April 8, 2011)
April 8, 2011 at 12:00 a.m. – April 14, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. (Date winner announced: April 15, 2011)
April 15, 2011 at 12:00 a.m. – April 21, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. (Date winner announced: April 22, 2011)
April 22, 2011 at 12:00 a.m. – April 28, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. (Date winner announced: April 29, 2011)

Entries are limited to one entry per week within the aforementioned timelines and must be a different photo in order to qualify. Entries may be submitted to either Twitter or Facebook and do not need to be submitted to both in order to qualify. Any person submitting more than one entry per week or duplicate entries via Facebook and Twitter will be will only be entered once into the drawing. Winners of the weekly drawings will still be eligible to win the grand prize.

Winner notification and prize claim: Weekly winners will win WONK merchandise, up to a $50 value, from cafepress.com/americanwonks. American University will order the merchandise. Merchandise, tax (if applicable) and shipping must total $50 or less. Merchandise with a total cost greater than $50 will be revised to bring the total costs to $50 or less. Winners will be permitted to choose any combination of merchandise from the American WONKs store. He or she will then submit their order to American University within one (1) week of being notified as the winner.

The grand prize winner will receive one (1) 16GB iPad 2, valued at $499. The iPad 2 may not be exchanged or transferred. No substitutions will be made. iPad 2 is a registered product of Apple Inc.

No purchase necessary. All entries become the property of American University and may be published in any format. By uploading your photographs to American University’s Facebook or Twitter pages, you hereby grant American University an irrevocable non-exclusive license to display, copy, and distribute copies (in print, electronic, and/or any digital format) of my photographs which I submitted for the Photo Contest, and to incorporate any submitted photographs, in whole or in part, into derivative works for educational, research, archival, marketing, promotional, and other purposes consistent with the mission of American University.  You also agree that no compensation shall be due to me.  You hereby release American University, its officers, directors, agents, and employees from all liability or legal responsibility that may arise from the acts that you granted herein.

Winners will be notified via Facebook e-mail and/or Twitter Direct Messaging and must provide name, address, phone number, and email in order to claim the prizes. Prizes will be mailed to him or her and may not be transferred or sold.

Contestants under the age of 18 must have parental consent. Odds of winning depend on the number of entries received. Winners are responsible for any tax implications as a result of their winning a prize. Contest is open to the American University community. Employees within the American University, University Communications and Marketing division are ineligible. For the names of the winners, please submit a request in writing to Jamie Hardin, University Marketing, 4400 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20016. American University reserves the right to change the dates and/or terms of the contest without prior notice.
